Kevin Mahar and Seth Bynum each share similar stories, yet their path to their ultimate goal is quite different. They both found their way to Indiana University and the baseball team. Seth grew up in Louisville, KY. Where he played Babe Ruth Baseball through the age of 18 at Beechmont, and he and his team played in the World Series twice in five years. His high school team, Butler, was ranked #1 in state for two years. After graduating, he received a scholarship to Lincoln Trail Junior College for two years, receiving Player of the Year in the region and leading the team in batting average, stolen bases, and hits. With two years of college under his belt, he then went to IU. After his senior year, he was honored as District Player of the Year, All Big-Ten First Team, and Mid-Season Baseball America Second Team All American.
Kevin Mahar, originally from Midland, MI went to IU as a punter for the football team, he was also a quarterback candidate. He decided to transfer to Lincoln Trail Junior College to further pursue his baseball career, oddly enough the following year he was back at IU where he would finish his college career.
Unlike most college careers that end after your senior year, Kevin and Seth’s story continues. Each are now playing for MLB organizations. Kevin, for the Texas Rangers, Seth, for the Washington Nationals. Each hope to find a permanent spot on an MLB roster in the near future.
Seth has played for the Savannah Sand Gnats and Harrisburg Senators. Kevin has played for the Frisco Roughriders, Oklahoma Redhawks and was called up last season to the Texas Rangers. Yes, he got a taste and it made him all the more hungry.
They each play more than 140 games per season for their respective teams, that doesn’t include travel, spring training & regular season practice, but the moment the season is over, Kevin and Seth share another similarity. They begin training for next season, they trained at P.A.S.S. for their off-season last year, and this winter they are back again training with us. To realize their dream, they know that they must make a difference in their game during the off-season.
You will hear it time and time again, but competition is fierce. For Kevin and Seth, not only are they competing against their opponents, they are also competing against their teammates for roster spots, playing time and ’the call’. That is, the call to the big leagues. To make it to Kevin and Seth’s level, you have to be good—no question, and what separates players at that level is usually very small. Which is why they are training at P.A.S.S.
Each are working out 4-5 days per week, gaining strength, working on speed, increasing power and

quickness. These are not ‘cupcake’ workouts that just pass an hour or so of their day. These workouts, led by our coach Steve, are intense. If you dream, like Kevin and Seth dream, you must put in the hark work and dedication. Kevin and Seth were born with talent, but that talent alone is not carrying them, they are working for it.
Our relationship with Seth and Kevin can also benefit you, your kids or anyone you know that has baseball dreams as well. Seth is not just working out at P.A.S.S. this off-season, he is also training young baseball players, passing along the skills he has learned during his playing career.
Seth has training sessions available that teach the intangibles of baseball, how to be quick off the base, lateral movement to the ball, developing power in your swing and in your throw, stealing bases and so much more.
He is also offering hitting lessons—focusing on technique. Without a good swing, baseball can be difficult. If you are a baseball player and want to get better shouldn’t you learn from someone that is doing it and still perfecting his game each day of the week.
If you are interested in training with Seth, he has availability thru the week and on Saturdays, but his time is limited to the winter months. It is getting cold outside, but spring will be here before we know it and Seth and Kevin will be off to spring training and young area baseball players will be starting their season on the field. Why not use these winter months to get better and learn from a pro.

double-play.
Family. We all have families and yes they can keep you busy, I know mine does. Several options here: we all need some time away, take your break at the gym. Or another alternative that many do not think of, train with your family. There are exercises for everyone, PASS just also happens to train ages kid thru adult.
America by and large is becoming very unhealthy. We are becoming overweight, we eat unhealthy foods, we don’t exercise. Don’t wait until New Years, make a change now your kids, for your family/spouse, but most importantly for YOU!
PASS offers all sorts of training, for kids, for adults, for elite athletes, for everyone and we make sure it never gets to be a boring routine.
Below is the web address for our news story, if you have a moment please check it out, we are thrilled that WTHR selected us for their story. Once again, thanks to Dave Patania and his crew.
Dave Patania, Fitness Expert for WTHR, set up live at PASS in late October to feature PASS and our training. First and foremost, Dave and channel 13 it was a pleasure, thank you for getting up with us in the early morning.
Dave Patania, for those that don’t watch channel 13 (you should, you really should) is the fitness expert for the Sunrise crew. His stories are creative, inspiring and all focused on one thing—staying fit.
Too often, whether we are young or old, we allow our fitness to take a backseat to work, home and so much more. When you think about it, the most important thing in life is, well, life itself...without it there is no job, house, car, etc. Dave’s message is often, get in the gym or into some workout routine and you will live longer, be healthier and be happier. Seems so simple, yet so many of us fail at just that.
There are many excuses we all use to avoid exercise; like time, money,
fatigue, unsure of what to do, family, etc.
Let’s look into those excuses closer:
Time. So we don’t have time to make sure we live long, healthy lives. We will all wish at some point we had more time, more time living that is.
Money. We all love money, but you can get into a fitness routine for varying degrees of it. Some fitness plans cost nothing, some cost lots. Find the one that fits your budget and spend just that...what you can.
Fatigue or too tired. We all work too much, be it thru kids, jobs, etc., exercise doesn’t where you out though. It gives you more energy. Sure you might be drained after a hard workout, but in no time you recover and feel great.
Unsure of how to workout. There are numerous places that will teach you (PASS for instance), there are websites, books, the list goes on and on. Bottom line, if you are doing something, it is better than nothing, start by walking and build up to jogging.
